Sneak Previews

Here's a sample of what you can expect in Morning Radio III 7. Building Relationships. Step 1: Introduction The Supremes made a great point when they sang “You Can’t Hurry Love”. If the goal is finding a life-long partner, the first step is to be introduced! You can’t fall madly in love until you meet them! When you’re a “new” show, you need to meet as many listeners as possible, both on the air and off. Think politicians. In a political campaign, you can’t be elected if they don’t know your name. And they don’t get to know your name solely through television or radio ads. Political campaigns understand that face time with voters is the most important thing on their agenda. If you’ve been introduced to a candidate, you feel a bond to them, like one of the fortunate ones. You start “cheering” for them. Your radio show is like a political campaign. Putting a face (and a smile) to a voice, with an invitation to “listen to me and tell me what you think” should be your first goal. Be everywhere! When you’re first starting out, no event is too big or too small. Volunteer to host charity events, dinners and fund raisers. Make sure you are at your station’s sales events shaking hands, introducing yourself and handing out an invitation to listen. Be available to speak at schools, children’s organizations, parents groups. Wherever there is an audience there’s an opportunity to be introduced to a potential listener for life! (MORE: Scroll Down) Unlike real life, however, you’re not just looking for that one soul mate. You need thousands and thousands of them. Therefore, the introduction phase is never really complete. You’re always introducing yourself to someone new and making an impression for the first time. After decades of entertaining audiences on television, Johnny Carson continued to introduce himself and tell people who he is every single night. He understood that new audiences were always finding him. Of course, once you lay a foundation of enthusiastic listeners, you can use them to introduce you to new potential partners through word of mouth. Just like meeting potential “dates”, the process can be accelerated when a mutual friend introduces you!
